Built for

Built for when injection molds don't fit

The rSeries is SKB's answer to equipment that doesn't fit a standard injection-molded case. Roto-molded tooling is flexible. Need an extra 2 inches of depth, a non-standard length, or a fully custom build? Because roto-molding doesn't require the hundreds of thousands of dollars in new tooling that a custom injection mold demands, the rSeries line can accommodate sizes the standard catalog can't reach.

In addition to fully custom, the rSeries is built for heavier-duty and sensitive payloads bound for harsh environments and long-term field use: marine antennas, precision instruments, and high-end industrial gear. Where injection molding caps out around 55 inches, the rSeries keeps going.

SKB 3R-6223-10 FAQ

What's the difference between roto-molded (rSeries) and injection-molded (iSeries) cases?

Two different manufacturing processes for two different jobs. Injection molding (the iSeries) uses a rigid steel mold to produce a smooth, precise shell that is fast, repeatable, and cost-effective for standard sizes, but the mold itself runs over $100K to modify, so the size catalog is fixed and caps out around 55 inches in length. Roto-molding (the rSeries) uses more flexible tooling, which means SKB can build non-standard sizes, custom depths, and even cut-and-weld multiple shells together into ultra-long enclosures. If your gear fits an iSeries standard size, that is typically the lower-cost route. If you need extra depth, a custom length, or a build beyond 55 inches, the rSeries is the answer.

Are SKB rSeries cases waterproof?

Yes. Every rSeries case is IP67 rated and built to MIL-STD 810. The roto-molded LLDPE shell is dust tight and water resistant, and includes an automatic ambient pressure equalization valve (MIL-STD-648C) for sealed altitude and temperature transit.

Can SKB rSeries cases be stacked on pallets for fleet shipping?

Yes. The rSeries is engineered for repeatable fleet logistics: squared corner blocks, planar lid and base, and reinforced wall geometry stack cleanly on standard 48" × 40" pallets. Optional STAC stackable hardware and forklift riser kits are available on most models.

What do the numbers in an SKB rSeries model name mean?

The rSeries naming convention encodes interior dimensions. For 3R1209-26, the first set (12) is interior length in inches, the next (09) is interior width, and the third (26) is total interior depth (lid + base). The trailing "B" is the SKB color code for black.

Can SKB build a custom-sized rSeries case beyond the standard catalog?

Yes. Because the rSeries is roto-molded, the tooling is flexible. Adding 2 inches of depth or extending a length usually does not require the hundreds of thousands of dollars in new tooling that custom injection molds demand. For truly oversized payloads, SKB cuts and welds multiple roto-molded shells together into a single custom case. One example: an 8-foot enclosure built for a U.S. Navy program supporting long-format high-value sensitive equipment intended for long-term deployment. If your program has the volume to justify it, custom sizing is on the table.

What custom foam and interior options are available for rSeries cases?

We design fully custom interiors for every rSeries case, including pick-n-pluck cubed foam, precision-cut layered convoluted foam, and Nylex-wrapped fitted foam with hook-and-loop accessory mounts. Engineering provides CAD review and prototype validation before production.

Do SKB rSeries cases have a warranty?

Yes. SKB-branded hardshell cases carry an unconditional lifetime warranty to the original owner against defects in materials and craftsmanship. If the case body fails in normal use, SKB replaces it.
